Seattle Japanese Gardens

The Seattle Japanese Gardens were quite a beautiful retreat from the urban feel of the University district that neighbors them. Almost as if one is transported to another world upon entering the gates. I visited on a slightly overcast day, but was pleased to find moments of sunshine breaking through. The grounds are sprinkled with vignettes, perfect for sitting in contemplation or conversation. One could spend hours there soaking in the beauty of the sculpted greens. My visit was before the colorful display that comes about during the spring, which allowed my eye to bathe in shades of green. Koi swam in the pond, quietly immersed in reflections of clouds upon the water. I encourage visitors to this tranquil place, and will certainly be returning for the colorful display later in the season.
